Synthetic Biologist

We are looking for creative scientists passionate about microorganism engineering and enzyme design. 

BioHeuris develops sustainable weed management systems. We integrate synthetic biology and gene editing to develop next-generation herbicide resistant crops. We strive to bring farmers cost-effective tools that delay weed resistance evolution and reduce environmental impact.

Our technological platform Heurik™ uses techniques like directed evolution and rational design of herbicide targets to identify mutations that confer herbicide resistance in crops. Our platform can select gene variants and compare their efficiency in microorganisms anticipating their effect in crops.

The Role: 

  • Performs molecular cloning, including nucleic acid preparation, vector and DNA library construction and purification, sequencing and QC
  • Engineers microorganisms as a chassis to express and test plant genes
  • Assists in compiling, analyzing and interpreting results 
  • Duties and tasks are varied and moderately complex 
  • Other duties as assigned
 

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.S.), Master’s degree (M.S.) or equivalent in molecular biology, synthetic biology, microbiology, plant biology, or a related field
  • 2-5 years of research laboratory experience preferred
  • Deep knowledge of the principles, methods, materials, equipment, and techniques used in microbiology, and molecular biology
  • Extensive experience in molecular techniques (PCR, primer design, nucleic acid purification, bacterial/yeast transformation and screening, gel electrophoresis) 
  • Basic computer skill, good with spreadsheets and sample handling.
